I would have blogged this live as it happened as I did the last big storm that hit Omaha... but heres the thing: You can't live blog without power or internet.
I would have diaried it yesterday but was way to tired after digging out, so here we are today with a diary long on links, but short on prose about the third major storm to hit the city of Omaha in just over a month. One that was not a tornado, but rather as my son called it a Tormato... it was actually 80-100 mph straight line winds along a rather large front with hail the size of golf balls.
See you below the fold for the links.
UPDATE 1: Included the video we shot.. duh, forgot it the first time.
And Update2: Like I said we are all fine, the house is a bit screwbar but we are fine.
The storm did have fatalities, a couple of teenage boys were killed when a tree fell on the honda civic they were in with a 15 year old girl. She was in the back seat and they as I understand it had just gotten off work and were looking to get together with friends and enjoy their weekend. At least 30 people tried to move the tree off the car during the storm but they simply did not have the strength to do so, nor did they when someone "borrowed" a front loader from a construction site.
My family is fine, no injuries and the worst of the storm was over in the time it took us to beat feet to the basement. And I am so proud of my little four year old! He was not scared, he did not cry and when it was over all he wanted to do was get outside and start "hepping people". He was a little trooper, even badgered his mother into bringing him over today which is not one of my visitation days so he could see how daddy, grammy, uncle Bill and Nana were and to see if he could help.
The only fatalities in our yard were to some of the birds that lived in our big pine tree. That tree has been a bird condo for years and years and this years tenants were a family of finches a family of cardinals, a couple of pairs of bluejays and the always presents robins; they usual bunch, the only addition was a pair of morning doves. All of them are now without a home and the finches.. well I found them crushed in their nest, the adults beak to tail like an avian yin and yang with a wing each out stretched to protect their young. It was ugly and beautiful sad and inspiring all at the same time and it bothered me a bit more then I really expected it would.
Well enough of my prattling here are the vids...
