One simple question, asked as she prepares for an apparent exit from the primary campaign.
Senator Clinton, will you fight as hard for Obama and our Congressional candidates in the general election as you have for yourself in the primary?
Amidst complaints of Clinton dragging out the nomination race and sharing anti-Obama talking points with McCain, I've seen praise of Clinton's tenacity and fighting spirit. I've seen favorable comparisons to the ways Republicans would use every trick they could think of - be they "dirty" tricks or "clean" ones, and wading into legal grey areas - to assure the outcome they desired.
I do think we need more of that. Keep it legal, of course, but a quick look at the 2000 and 2004 elections will tell you how dearly our country has suffered as a result of the Democrats' reluctance to fight tooth and nail for our policies and our candidates.
No doubt, Clinton is a fighter. And though I don't think she should be officially affiliated with the Obama campaign - for the same reasons most people on this site consider her unsuitable for the VP nod - I think she could be a valuable resource to our candidates up- and down-ticket nevertheless. Especially if she's willing to fight for them the way she fights for herself.
I don't expect her to give Obama's campaign the same attention she gave her own. But it'd be nice to at least show up to stump for him, or for some of our House and Senate candidates, and it'd certainly go a long way towards party unity.
