I talked with a childhood friend today. He and his wife both hold batchelors degrees and he a masters in business. They are both licensed real estate brokers. His wife runs their real estate and mortgage company and he works full time in the constuction industry. Or I should say he did until a few days ago....
He was laid off for the second time in less than 6 months. Previously he had worked for the same company for 17 years. In a merger, he was forced to apply for his job and was not rehired. I'm sure they hired some 20 something straight out of college who they could get for less than what his 20+ years of experience in the industry required. He searched for several months for employment and took another job in his chosen field about two months ago. Now he has been laid off again. When I asked him what happened, he replied, "The economy happened".
According to his wife, their real estate and mortgage business is not bringing in enough money to pay the business expenses.
Our discussion of the economy quickly brought us to politics and guess who they'll be voting for in November????
John McCain
You read that right.
I'm not kidding.
John McSame.
My friend said McCain was "not his man" but he'd "Hold his nose and vote for McCain and then go outside and probably throw up". Because he "Doesn't like either of the other two".
I asked him what business was like for him eight years ago. The line was silent. I know I'm a b$*@^ but, I told him I hoped he enjoyed being unemployed.
I just don't get it. These good, hard working, well educated people are about to lose everything they have worked for for their entire lives because of the damage the Republicans have done to our economy. But yet they will blindly follow down the same path. If anyone out there can explain this to me please do.
