If Hillary is not the VP nominee within the next 24 hours, she won't be.
Hillary's language last night ("fighting to make sure every voice is heard"), was not conciliatory. In fact, it may have made it harder for Obama to select her as the VP. No legitimate presidential nominee can be seen as weak, and as having been forced to nominate a VP candidate.
Hillary’s camp knows this. I suspect that they aren’t seeing the overtures they thought they would be by now, and are now playing their last option to force Obama’s hand. So if you look behind the curtain, here’s what it appears is happening:
- Obama did not reach out to Hillary with firm conviction in the last week, which was an indication to the Hillary camp that he does not want to really have Hillary on the ticket.
- Hillary has no other way to get his attention.
With this dynamic in mind, it should be clear that the next 24 hours are crucial. Hillary’s public profile will begin to wane starting today. Obama, if he hasn’t been convinced yet, is not likely to be convinced to put her on the ticket in the future.
If Obama doesn’t put Hillary on the ticket by the end of tomorrow, it ain’t going to happen.
