As most clear-headed people have come to agree, what could have been an earth-shaking historic moment in American political history, and to all intents and purposes seemed so inevitable only a year ago, instead came to an end Tuesday thanks to a long string of errors by Senator Clinton, her campaign, and her surrogates including and especially her husband.
And if you thought it would come to end, Hillary continues to add to what has already become a sad comedy of errors.
First, she began the primary season by lining up a parade of influential Black friends to denigrate Obama. Most notable among those was Bob Johnson, founder of BET who had to apologize to Obama after one of his several affronts.
But what's worse? Now we learn she's sent the same Bob Johnson (who made Obama's self-confessed experiment with drugs a campaign issue and lined it up for the Repugs) to harrass Congregational Black Caucus members to urge Obama to put her on a joint-ticket. What a bummer!
Second, her advisers told her it was kosher to play tricks on the electorate and diss Obama by repeatedly suggesting that the candidate who was already the front-runner in the race should be her running mate.
If that wasn't bad enough, after having secured a promise from Obama to discuss things privately last week, she went on a staged conference call last a couple of days ago and threw out the idea of placing her on the ticket as the running mate, believing that by putting it out there she could rouse her supporters and use them to hold Obama to ransome.
Duh!
And worst of all, Tuesday night when she had a most opportune moment to try and get on the better side of a candidate that she and her surrogates have persistently and consistently maligned this whole season, and acknowledge that he has become the party's nominee, after all, what did she do? She put her supporters in a basement, cut off all communication so they would not be aware that the world had moved on, and then gave the most ungracious valedictory any candidate has given in recent times. She spoke of Obama as if she had won the nomination and he was the runner-up deserving of a patronizing pat on the head.
Duh! Duh! Duh!
How does someone who could have had it all (not my vote, btw), go on to lose it all including even the prospect now of a dignified exit? Beat me on the head, people; it must be me 'cos I don't get it.
