For all the Hillaryis44, and the Larry Johnson's of the world, many of them think that Hillary should drop out of the democratic party, as some are claiming to do.
I wonder, is it feasible?
I know she will suspend her campaign, so this is a "What If?" scenario.
Update: This is a question. I asked. I tried to answer it.
First. Money is a big issue. Last time we checked in with Hillary she was $20 million dollars in debt, her big fund raisers were holding checks until the general election, and I doubt with her lifestyle and Bill's expected speaking engagements to decrease, she would want to hold on to the rest of her $89 million.
So for all of those who expect her to run a decent campaign, do they mean to give her even more pittances? From the greatest of her internet attempts they are struggling to give even $10,000.
Many of her strongest backers and fund raisers know better than to give money to a lost effort and one that will alienate close allies for short term defeat.
Second. Those 18 million. How many of them are ardent Clinton supporters? How many are Basic democrats that chose her over another candidate. I am willing to bet that a vast majority of them are the latter. The former if we are being kind here and give them 25% that only equals up to 4.5 million, which is a very high number to suspect they are ONLY Clinton, and a low number compared to the rest of the electorate.
I worked for the Green Party for almost a year, and I will say that even they have difficulty getting large number of voters, not to mention Hillary's inept campaign strategy.
Third. Her Senate seat. Now I don't know New York state laws, and we have seen instances when senators have switched parties mid-stream, but is it possible? If it is a given that she can, would she want to?
Lets say she does. She would probably lose her chairwoman, or seated positions on Comittee seats. that would make her ineffectual, and push her down to the ranks of Lieberman. I am saying this only as it comes to expected big wins and Democratic majority in the Senate.
Fourth. Legacy. Hillary is not a stupid person, by far she is smart, intelligent, and certainly aware of what goes on in American politics. Does she want to be remembered as the Nader of 2008? Lose her Senate seat in the next primary? Give George Bush a third term under McCain? I dont think she does. I hope she doesn't.
