This will be a brief diary - sorry. But I just learned that I came within a city block of seeing Barack Obama today.
Of course, this isn't news, but this Crain's Business article will be of interest to my fellow Chicagoans. Obama at Daley Plaza
We Obama supporters of the Windy City (and man, was it truly windy today - for real), have been loving the results of the past primaries and seeing so much of the rest of the country learn about our secret weapon. But it's been at the cost of not having him around here much lately.
That's changing this weekend as he has returned home for some much deserved and needed rest (and a reported date with Michelle). But he also made a stop in the Loop today to help our city's efforts at winning the 2016 Olympics.
The link to the article is above, but here's some of the text:
Mayor Richard M. Daley unveiled Chicago’s new logo as a finalist for the 2016 Olympics, but not before rolling out what could be the city’s most powerful marketing weapon: Sen. Barack Obama.
Mr. Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, made an unscheduled visit Friday to a Daley Plaza rally celebrating Chicago being named one of four finalists for the 2016 Summer Games.
And more:
"In 2016, I’ll be wrapping up my second term as president," he told the large crowd. "I can’t think of a better way than marching into Washington Park alongside Mayor Daley."
2016 - second term, oh yeah!
The Illinois senator, home in Chicago a day after meeting with former rival Hillary Clinton in Washington, D.C., was greeted by thunderous applause from the crowd and shouts of "Yes we can."
Right about that time, I was traversing the Loop, having left work early, and making my way to Union Station. My route took me within a block of Daley Plaza. Oh, if only I'd known...!!
