Vice President Dick Cheney extended his congratulations to Democratic Presidential candidate to be, Senator Barrack Obama. He also extended an offer to help in the selection of a vice presidential candidate, citing his own experience heading up President George W. Bush's VP selection team, which eventually settled on Cheney himself as the best candidate.
In prepared remarks, Cheney explained, "I know how the process works, how to vet the prospects, and, most importantly, feeding the choice to the American people and getting them to swallow it. Senator Obama is a very intelligent and capable young man, but he has never served in the private sector nor does he have any military service. The VP choice should be made to balance out these deficiencies, perhaps someone with experience heading up a large oil and gas services company, and perhaps someone who even though he has not served in the military, has experience as a Secretary of Defense or Vice President during the time of war. As a matter of fact, going through this exercise again, I am coming the conclusion that the best man for the position would be myself. What could possibly be more helpful to this country than continuity from the Bush administration to the incoming leadership?"
Reached for comment, Obama spokesman Wallace Murgatroid thanked the Vice President for his offer, but politely declined, stating, "Perhaps Mr. Cheney could offer his services to the McCain campaign."
