I'm stunned beyond words right now. Georgia had passed a new law to allow people to carry concealed weapons into restaurants, state parks and on public transportation. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Tim Bearden, a republican of course.
The City of Atlanta declared Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport a gun-free zone. Naturally, Rep. Bearden and his merry band of gun toting republicans have decided to fight this restriction in court arguing that the airport qualifies as public transportation and there public restraurants within the airport. The only bit of sanity displayed is that they agree no guns should be allowed in restraurants beyond the security check point. This has been reported in the Huffingpost. Lawsuit filed to carry guns at Atlanta Airport
Wait until you read what Rep Bearden plans to do beside just a law suit! Read more below!
Even more stunning, the public servant representative Bearden plans his own protest by testing and violating the law
He had told a newspaper he would carry a concealed weapon to the airport Tuesday when he picked up his family. But he told The Associated Press by telephone Tuesday morning, "There will be no reason for any confrontation at the airport." Lawsuit filed to carry guns at Atlanta Airport
Is just me or did the party where every sentence is a noun, a verb and 9-11 (or the more generic terrorism or the more specific Islamo-fascist radical jahadists blah blah blah terrorists) just allow potential terrorists to actually carry weapons into our Airports, our bus stations, on our subways, our bridges!!!! It renders that saying "if you see something, say something moot" since if anyone notices the bulge of a gun in someone's pocket, it's actually legal!
I strongly believe that sportsman should have a guns for hunting and for range shooting, and I understand some peoples desire to protect their homes. I will never allow a gun in my house, but to each their own. At the same time, I believe in reasonable restrictions on access and usage and support liability for gun owners who don't protect and secure their guns properly. (this is the part of the dairy where I try to show i'm reasonable)
The one voice of sanity is the democratic mayor of Atlanta, Shirley Franklin, who fought to keep the airport gun fee and is leading the show down on this issue. Way to go Mayor Franklin!
Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin said citizens can't bring guns into the terminal and argued that airports remain attractive targets for terrorism.
Allowing citizens to carry firearms "would create an environment that would endanger millions of people," she said
AP law suit filed over Atlanta airport barring guns
However, this law for concealed weapons is crazy, especially on public transportation and then to fight in court to allow weapons in an airport is just bat shit crazy to me. And when he threatens to carry a gun into the airport to pick up his family from a trip, he should have the book thrown at him.
I nominate GA Rep Tim Bearden for todays biggest fool in our daily parade of GOP fools! And a side nomination to the news media.
