a Republican voting card. Let me explain. My father was a dye in the wool Republican. Not the neo-con, religious right, Rushbo type of a Republican, but more like a Lincoln Republican. I would go as far to say that he would vote for Obama in this election if he was still alive. So when I was young I registered as a Republican and for no reason other than laziness I have remained a registered Republican. I have not voted for a Republican candidate for quite a long while.
Being a registered Republican in this election season has brought me a few chuckles. More below the fold.
For example I get updates from various Republican candidates to keep me informed of the damage that Obama would do to our great nation. And then there was the time I got a phone call from a pollster that wanted me to answer a simple question. "Would I prefer a Republican or Democrat in the White House?" I stated a Democrat of course because they would be able to straighten out the mess that Bush has created over the past 7 years. There was a long pause before the pollster replied "Everything wrong is because of Clinton!" I said "What? has Clinton been President for the past 7 years?" at this point the pollster hung up on me.
And now today I get this gem in my email. The press has been commenting that McCain has not used his time in Vietnam as a prisoner of war to promote himself as a candidate for president. To this I say BULLS***.
When I was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam from 1967 to 1973, I was given the option to come home early because my father was an admiral in the U.S. Navy. I refused to go, because I took an oath of service to put my country first.
This is from an email that I received today from John McCain. It goes on talking about the time he served makes him more qualified to lead our nation.
When I was offered a chance to go home early from prison camp in North Vietnam, I put my country first, and I've been putting my country first in life ever since. I believe that the challenges I have faced in service to my country have better prepared me to lead our country as president. Our campaign has released a new ad, and I'd like you to be one of the first to see it. Please follow this link today to learn a little more about my life and why I owe so much to our great country. Thank you for your time
Now I will never discredit his service to our nation. I will call BS on his statement that his time in Hanoi Hilton makes him a better candidate. It takes more than this and If you look at his entire record of self promotion, flip flopping to serve his own interests and now his pandering to the religious right I can only say that he is going to continue the same failed policies of Bush.
We need a true leader, a person that will inspire people and to give them hope. And most everyone on this site know that Obama is that man.
