OK folks. As you know a bunch of us are going to get together in Austin this week, and part of that get together will be two sessions, one on Friday and on Saturday, to kick off a netroots-wide effort to put some language together to submit to the DNC and Obama camp as part of THEIR effort to get everyday citizen type input on the DNC platform. (I previously diaried here about this effort so you can get more details.)
Anyway, I wanted to update you some more on how this is going to work...
We will be working with MixedInk, a group who's come up with a nifty software platform for collaborative writing. Essentially, we will be able to provide input on what we want in the platform, vote on the best language, and eventually edit into a document that we all can democratically vote on. Pretty cool, huh?
THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART: even if you are not going to NN, you can get in on the fun. Simply go to the MixedInk homepage and sign up to be part of this unique effort. The panels at Netroots Nation are simply the kickoff to this effort, as we will be continuing to edit and revise this document several weeks after NN, to gain more input from across the netroots, and hopefully come up with a final document for submission to the DNC.
For those who ARE going to be in Austin, the Friday panel at 10:30 a.m. we will be working on some general principles language to guide us in this process, and the Saturday session at 10:30 a.m. will focus on five specific issue area groups: the economy, national security/foreign policy, civil rights and liberties, the environment, and health care. At each session, MixedInk will put on a short demonstration of their platform, and then we will get to work!
Feel free to join us over the course of this exercise, either online or in Austin, and we might just come up with a nice document to submit to the DNC.
Thanks for reading.
