For those that don't know, Northeast Florida (Jacksonville and the surrounding counties) are about as Republican as you can get. The only county near us that went for Kerry is Alachua County which has the college town of Gainesville. That being said some poll results from Duval County should be a concern to John McCain...
Last presidential election Duval County (which is Jacksonville literally) went for Bush 57.78-41.62. In 2000, Bush won Duval County 57.49-40.74. The surrounding counties were no where near that close. http://uselectionatlas.org/... In this light, a new University of North Florida (UNF) poll of Duval County residents has to be considered good news. In an article detailing the poll's results regarding attitudes towards the economy, http://www.jacksonville.com/... , this nugget stood out for me...
Both McCain and Obama had support from 42 percent of those surveyed.
Despite how the article tries to play it as reflective of the entire nation, if they are tied in Duval this is good news. If Duval is close, Barack Obama will win Florida.
Something additional to consider, Duval County has a very high number of unregistered black voters. If Obama can get them registered (and I'm gonna help all I can), some interesting things may happen here.
