Which John McCain are we supposed to believe? It seems to this blogger that he has shown so many faces he makes Sybil look sane.
He rants when retired Gen. Wes Clark makes the comment "riding around in a jet fighter and getting shot down," isn't, " a qualification to be President."
When Jim Webb (D-Va) calls on him to "simmer down", McCain and his camp scream conspiracy. Yet he doesn't have a problem taking money from the same "Swift Boaters" he denounced in 2003-4.
With one face he tells supporters he is a "mavrick" and has America's best interests at heart, but with the other one he threatens to have Union members arrested for protesting his record against working families.
McCain makes these comments on his understanding of economics;
- "The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should," McCain said. "I’ve got Greenspan’s book." [December 2007]
- Seeking to explain his shift on economic issues, McCain claimed: "I didn’t pay nearly the attention to those issues in the past. I was probably a ’supply-sider’ based on the fact that I really didn’t jump into the issue." [January 2000]
Then denies he ever made those statements! What a buffoon!
How about him attacking Presidential candidate Barack Obama for calling for a windfall profits tax on the oil industry;
"He (Obama)wants a windfall profits tax on oil, to go along with the new taxes he also plans for coal and natural gas. If the plan sounds familiar, it's because that was President Jimmy Carter's big idea too - and a lot of good it did us. Now as then, all a windfall profits tax will accomplish is to increase our dependence on foreign oil, and hinder exactly the kind of domestic exploration and production we need."
When on May 5, 2008 McCain himself said:
I don't like obscene profits being made anywhere–and I'd be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax–that's not what bothers me–but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people, that or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.
These are just a few of McCain's many faces as you are no doubt aware. Everytime he opens his mouth, I find another reason to vote a straight Democratic ticket in November.
