"Instead I will continue implementing a proven counterinsurgency strategy not only in Iraq but also in Afghanistan with the goal of creating stable, secure, self-sustaining democratic allies."
I don’t know if that is a real transcript of the submission, but I do know that the quote above is the last line of the editorial as presented by CNN.com, updated 1:22 p.m. EDT, Mon July 21, 2008.
I think that quote, considering the source, is very revealing.
"...a goal of creating... democratic allies." A noble thought, no? A worthy goal?
Shall we use diplomacy as a tool to convince people of our good intentions (I know, I know) and promise them strong support in return? Or, at worst, shall we leave them pretty much alone as long as they leave us alone (national security being a given)?
Seems not.
If we have to kill you to create a democratic ally, so be it. "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" if they will not accept the paradise that we have created next door and bow to our democratic ideals. Onward Christian Soool-diers.
It don’t matter how many of you anti-Christians we have to bomb, torture and kill, we’re going to bring you to the blessings of Jesus’ democracy. We’re going to create, through sheer might and will, democratic allies all over the place. If you disagree with us, we will kill you. We will torture you. We will kill your children. And we will kill your husbands and your wives. We will have victory where ever we go!
WE WILL HAVE VICTORY!
Anyone who disagrees with me seeks defeat. HE IS WEAK! If we are going to have victory we have to be strong. We have to be willing to kill women and children and torture teenaged boys.
For we are a just nation and we bring justice to the world.
In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, amen.
