If I hadn't seen this on their website, I would have sworn this came from The Onion or 23/6...
Hollywood's Conservative Underground: 'Friends of Abe' group meets quietly
No, this came from The Washington Times, and it cites a number of Hollywood figures known to be conservative -- Gary Sinise, Jon Voight, Lionel Chetwynd, Kelsey Grammer. They have to meet in secret, slipping under the cloak of the bright California sun into discreet, well-hidden billionaire estates to plot their grassroots strategies.
The movement has grown over the past few years from gatherings of a few dozen to one last month that drew more than 600 to a billionaire's California estate, Mr. Boone said.
This is the part that gives me a strong feeling this story is meant as humor...
Friends of Abe has functioned like a support group, organizing informal gatherings where actors, producers, screenwriters, key grips and other industry types can share common values or discuss concerns like anti-Americanism in Hollywood movies or the perception of industry bias against conservatives and Republicans.
Key grips??? What, no best boys?
The entire tone of the story makes them sound like a brave resistance to the liberal tyranny of the Hollywood Power Base. There are two embedded videos from Pat Boone that remind me of nothing so much as interviews of newly-announced gay celebrities speaking of living a public lie while having to explore their true lifestyles in fear of being outed. If Pat Boone weren't so terminally unhip, I would give him credit for playing along with the gag.
On the other hand, maybe he has something else to share with us....
This is just one more attempt by white male conservatives to claim victimization, including a quote by that brave defender of the ruling class, David Horowitz (I'm not even going to box quote him. I already feel like I've been swimming in sludge).
