McCain's latest antics I've been thinking over the last few days about how we can hit back harder at John McCain. Each day of Senator Obama's tip overseas, John McCain increased the level of his libelous rhetoric to ridiculous heights, basically accusing Barack of being an America hating terrorist lover who hates the troops. His actions are despicable, and make it clear that he's one of the sleaziest presidential candidates in recent memory.
The Obama campaign is hitting back, but the truth is that they will never hit back as hard as McCain will attack them. While McCain can through every slander and lie Obama's way with little recourse, if Obama was to attack him even half as fiercely, he'd face a media firestorm.
So I think we need to have Senator Obama's back, and I have a few ideas of how below the fold.
While we have been incredibly effective at shining light on Senator McCain's hypocrisy and horrible record as a person, our reach is fairly limited. As damning as the evidence we present is, our reach is primarily to those who already subscribe to our viewpoint. Even the few undecideds we reach are usually those who are already politically engaged. While effective in organizing and informing people with information that they can bring with them into the field, our method of communication is a passive one. We provide information only to those who seek it out.
The right wing has failed when it comes to passive communication. The conservative blogosphere does not have nearly the ability to communicate and organize as we do. Sites like RedState are reduced to begging their members for funds, just to stay active. However, they've been much better at mastering active communication.
The Obama smear emails are a perfect example of that. While simplistic and filled with blatant falsehoods, the emails are effective at reaching scores of low information voters. It reaches voters who won't necessarily do their homework to research every allegation they receive. Even though the people who started those emails are mostly racist idiots, they have still been affective in getting a fairly sizable portion of the population to believe blatant falsehoods about Senator Obama
I've been thinking that we need to respond back with a similar email of our own. Now let me be clear, I am not suggesting we spread any falsehoods. McCain's record gives us more than enough material to hit him with and have it be truthful. If every American read half the stuff we had posted on this blog, we'd win the general election with 80% of the vote.
But the truth is that most Americans won't come visit this blog. Most of them will cast their vote in November, but pay more attention to the E Online website than they will to a political website. So I say we bring the information about McCain to them. We hit him hard, on issues that the campaign wouldn't touch, and we do it in plain language that's easy for people to understand. Maybe it will actually help us sway some of the low information votes. Maybe it won't. This post is more meant as a Saturday night open discussion, where people can discuss whether they think this is a good idea or not.
I have a few ideas of things we could hit him on, such as his infidelity towards his first wife, his verbal abuse of Cindy, the Keating 5 scandal, or his many many flip flops. Feel free to pitch in with your ideas about what you think we could use to attack Senator McCain with.
I don't know about you, but I'm sick and tired of seeing our candidate's name dragged through the mud, and not enough done to hit back. I'm ready to change that. Are you?
