Obama wants his supporters to help Clinton retire her debt and they haven’t been too enthusiastic in doings so; whilst some Clinton donors are seen to be waiting for the Obama camp to show some love before they lift Obama. What a maddeningly stupid impasse. Stupid, because the solution is so obvious I can’t believe that it’s taking a diary from a Canuck to offer the solution. Jump with me.
Few sane observers will contest that the strength of the Obama-Clinton camp post-nomination unity will have serious implications vis-à-vis Obama’s chances come November. So it behoves all Democrats to forge the bonds necessary to facilitate that merger; lest they find themselves with a third Bush term.
Sure, some in the Obama camp complain that the Clinton people want titles, they want rewards, and they want influence. Well duh! Do you honestly think they’d just pay and crawl away? Do you think it right that a half of the Democrat family be simply solicited but subdued?
Of course they want influence, for it is the highest mark of inclusion. And any here who think this be hearsay have more in common with the worst of their Republican opponents that they recognize.
Unity has a price. The question is, are you willing to pay it?
I propose that the wonderful fund raising capabilities of this community (and other progressive blogs) embark on a campaign where Clinton donors are asked to match dollar for dollar in donations to Obama, what the Obama camp raises to retire Clinton’s debt. I suspect you are all up to the challenge.
Do I have a second?
