I have no idea if this was an original idea by LeftLeanWing over at the Huffington Post, or if s/he cribbed it without acknowledgement from someone else (because I've been the victim of someone stealing my posts without acknowledgement to post on unrelated sites, before)...... but whoever wrote it, I like it:

Have the kids plan to smear an opponent with comparisons to scooby-doo, barney and pickachu.
Kid 1's voice: "who does he think he is ? Barney !
Kid 2's voice: "he's a rock star like scooby-doo and pickachu
Kid 3's voice: "what do they think this is a popularity contest ? arrrrrgh !"
End with the byline: "With the serious problem facing our country and the world, we need a president that treats american voters like adults.

Obama '08 the candidate for grownups
All this to say, I am really, really disappointed in John McCain. This is unacceptable, and it IS talking down to voters in ways which would blow Jesse Jackson's mind. I am also disappointed in those over in Freeperland who keep dispensing the kool-aid that this was a good idea, because 'that'll show Barry Hussein!' Then I remember how stupid the rest of the world thought Americans were after the 2004 election, with one particular British headline in particular........................
and I remember, so recently, how the New Yorker was able to get people on its bandwagon through an appeal to snobbery, talking down to people while pretending to talk equally/up to them.
I will pray the American people are not so stupid this time.
And again, applause to LeftLeanWing (and/or whoever actually wrote this 'wish it were a counter-ad').
UPDATE 08.03.08: Looks like Hamlette of Democratic Underground has already found an even better counter ad, shorter sweeter to the point -- and published (though I can't read the name of the editorial cartoonist who drew this):
