I tip my hat to Obama's team. They have been tight-lipped about everything they have been doing. Unfortunately, speculation gets really carried away.
This is pure speculation. I have been reading all of these diaries but haven't found any to my liking that I agree with so I decided to put some food for thought out there. Follow along and don't forget to take the poll.
We know that the biggest key to a successful Obama presidency will be a filibuster proof senate. That requires 60 dems. We currently have 50 that will work with us, one that will be leaving us. That means we need 10 Senators to reach that level. However, I believe if we get 57 or 58, we will be able to pick off 2 or 3 Republicans that are up in 2012 to go with us for fear of getting beat. It will create progressive legislation less progressive. In 2012, there is no doubt we will hit 60 if not more. That will mean progressive legislation.
We know the second biggest key is a strong US House controlled by Dems, not blue dog dems. The more good dems we can get in the House, the better. I think we will make tremendous gains in the House this year because the Republicans are broke, McCain takes enthusiasm away, and Obama will have tremendous coattails.
With those two thoughts, there is no way I can buy the fact that Obama's team will risk losing 1 member.
That goes to my thinking about....why does the VP have to be a career politician? Why can't Obama's team go outside the box with a Gen. Zinni or a business leader? Think of all of the successful business leaders that enter politics such as Jon Corzine Gov. of NJ. A smart business leader with great common sense and great communication skills is exactly what is needed as VP. So many people think that we need someone strong on foreign policy. I disagree 100%. Think if McCain wants to make this campaign about foreign policy....
- We have Iraq on our side big time.
- Its the economy stupid. If McCain talks constantly about foreign policy instead of the economy, I smell landslide.
Therefore I have been looking around at some potentials. Feel free to include in the comments below some ideas as well and take the poll.
Possibilities:
- Bob Costas
- Tom Brokaw
- Warren Buffett
