I'm concerned. No, not about the election. About you. You're running around on this site annoying the shit out of people. Either that, or you're being annoyed by the people who are annoying.
Take a breath, and think for a second. What was the last thing you enjoyed to such a degree that it could be said that you savored it?
Everyone has a moment in their life that is so amazing that they wish they could go back in time and re-live it over and over again. For me, it was the morning of the second day of my honeymoon.
It was our second day in Jamaica, and as the sun came up I brewed myself a cup of Blue Mountain coffee, walked out on the patio behind our room and sipped my coffee as I lit up a Cuban cigar as my gorgeous wife slept soundly in the room. I had no idea what I was going to do that day, but the day was full of possibilities. What a moment!
Some other things I have savored recently:
Margaret Atwood's "A Handmaid's Tale" -- Really spectacular writing. I didn't even feel like reading at the time, but I can remember racing through this book, chewing on every word. This was written by someone who appreciates the value of words, and who had something important to say as well.
The look my 5-month-old gives me when I come home from work -- If you haven't experienced this, then there's no way I can adequately describe it to you. It's like a piece of you, and a piece of the person you love most in the world -- and it has life, and it is glad to see you. Amazing.
Homemade stuffed mushrooms -- My wife and I made 15 of the most delicious stuffed mushrooms ever. They were made with Parmesan cheese, some sauteed garlic, a little black pepper and just the right amount of ground cayenne. Did you ever notice that cayenne pepper has a taste of its own, behind the spice? If you use the right amount, you'll see what I mean.
A glass of Laphroaig -- This was my first single malt scotch. I had tried a blended scotch after making the decision to try my first scotch, and was disappointed. The nose on this drink was like standing over a mossy, granite cliffside in some Scottish isle, smelling the briny spray of the sea and the morning dew on the grass. It's probably as close to Scotland as I'll ever get.
Taking a walk for exercise -- I got to the point where I could walk 20 laps around the small park in my neighborhood. There's something about getting out there and using up some of the extra energy that we have that makes you feel more human. You're tired when you're done, but it's not a bad tired. You feel even more energized than when you began.
Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" -- A visually entrancing movie with some powerful performances. If you really want to treat yourself, get a copy of this movie along with Del Toro's "The Devil's Backbone" and get ready for a cinematic adventure into the beautiful and the terrible.
That's about all I have for you at the moment. Please take a moment to briefly relive some of the experiences that you have savored in your life. Share them, and tell us why they were so special.
