So this is it. It will be "I was a POW" (who lives in more houses than he can count, wears $527.00 loafers, flies on his wifes jet, and thinks $5 million dollars is rich) vs. you're a modern DFH elitist.
Well, let the games begin. But before the games start, could we please call into question how it came to be that Mr McCain had the chance to become a POW. You know, back when he had everything that a boy could want and then some. Talk about a charmed life. I've never heard of a USS Obama, but I have read about the USS McCain.
I don't call into question his time as a POW, nor whether or not he served honorably, because those have been asked and answered. Follow me below the fold....
John Sidney McCain III was born to John S. McCain, Jr. (1911–1981) and Roberta (Wright) McCain (b. 1912). His grandfather was John Sidney McCain Sr. (August 9, 1884 – September 6, 1945). Both McCain Sr and McCain Jr retired from the US Navy with the rank of 4 Star Admirals.
McCain Jr was active during the time McCain III entered the Naval Academy. It has been noted that Mr McCain did well in subjects that he liked, but tended to surrender to those subjects that he didn't, just getting by. Then how is it that he could get into the Naval Academy? Yeah, Yeah, I know, dumb question. Well for a non-elitist, that would be elitist moment number #2. Elitist moment number #1 was:
In 1951, his family settled in Northern Virginia, and McCain attended Episcopal High School, a private preparatory boarding school in Alexandria. In high school, he excelled at wrestling and graduated in 1954.[
It is also noted that Mr McCain did not excel at the Naval Academy:
McCain came into conflict with higher-ranking personnel, he did not always obey the rules, and that contributed to a low class rank (894 of 899) which he did not aim to improve. He did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he disliked, such as math. McCain graduated in 1958
So tell us, who was going to punish him? His father was an Admiral, his grandfather was a former Admiral, his great uncle was a Brigadier General. Elitist moments #'s 3 thru 300.
So let me get this straight, Mr McCain has a class rank of 894 out of 899. So all but 5 midshipmen were ranked higher than him, yet he gets the choice assignment of being a fighter pilot? The Navy at the time could not find enough volunteers out of the 893 that came before him?
Elitist moment #301
Sorry this diary is so short. Having paid my way through college, joined the military (seven years). Then returned to civilian life and sometimes wondering where I was going to get the money to finish out the month. I find it amusing that someone who grew up the way John McCain did (with every advantage that life could give) can call anyone an elitist.
