I know we need another Housingate article like we need a third war in Iraq, but I haven't seen anyone yet mention what seems like an obvious line of attack. We're focused on exploiting the John-McCain-is-wealthy-and-out-of-touch narrative, and perhaps not seeing how we can synthesize this with another, even more damaging narrative.
Please allow me to explain below the cut.
Here is what I think our message should be as of right now:
John McCain is wealthy and out-of-touch, just like George W. Bush.
Imagine this:
Followed by this:
Over the past four-to-eight years, the American people have finally woken up to see that George Bush is in it to help the moneyed classes at the expense of everyone else, and it's that disaffection from him more than anything else that is, I believe, responsible for his still-falling approval ratings. As Bush's rich friends get richer and the economy slinks, despite his protests, into recession, people are seeing that Republican fat-cats, shockingly, don't actually have their best interests at heart.
This is our opportunity to make sure everyone realizes that John McCain really is just another rich Republican, who'll continue the Bush agenda of ignoring middle class pain to benefit his elite buddies.
Again, imagine this:
Followed by this:
And maybe cap it off with this:
Knocking McCain on houses is fantastic, and it'll hurt. But we can really twist the knife by using this to demonstrate what we've always known:
John McCain is wealthy and out-of-touch, just like George W. Bush.
