We all did a double take when we heard Biden utter "Barack America" when he gave his VP acceptance speech. I had to rewind the TIVO just to hear it again to make sure of what I heard. It's been described as an unconscious Freudian slip and a gaffe. However, this new article on Politico seems to suggest otherwise.
This is an interesting article on Politco.com. However, what really caught my eye was this paragraph on the VP acceptance speech:
Biden divulged his nickname for Obama: "Barack America." He described his wife as "drop-dead gorgeous" and the holder of a doctorate, which "is a problem." (Spokesman David Wade later explained: "She keeps him in line. We should all be so lucky.") Veering from the fresh-blood-in-Washington mantra, Biden also emphasized that only four senators claimed more seniority than him, but "there’s still 44 older than me. I want you to know that part."
Divulged? Not a slip of the tongue after all? I love it. It seems the two have more of a relationship than we originally thought. And the fact that this is Biden's nickname for Obama says volumes about Biden--he summed up Obama so perfectly in such a warm, catchy, and insightful way.
For some reason, I seem to think I've heard Biden describe Obama similarly in the past, but I couldn't find any quotes to that effect. Anyone else got some links to that effect?
Sorry for the rather short diary, but I think it's an interesting catch about our new ticket.
