Inauguration Day is on January 20, 2009. Hopefully, the Obama/Biden ticket I predicted months ago will win, but it might not. Either way, on that fateful day Bush will be out of office, and a new president will be sworn in. Our candidate is running under a unification platform, reminding us that there are neither Red States nor Blue States, but these United States. If he loses, he will be forced to give a concession speech, and will endorse McCain. This is a possibility we must prepare for.
Obama is not preaching Unity for Unity's sake. Whether we find victory or defeat this November, we must begin to unite as Americans; we have very serious problems coming up, the most important of which is our foreign relations. Biden was the obvious choice, for he is most skilled at this very thing.
The rise of Putin's Russia is not a joke. He arms almost every nation and organization hostile to us and our interests. He has killed journalists, dissidents, and critics. He is making threats, and so far he has carried out his threats.
If we, as a nation, do not unite after this election, there are going to be consequences. I don't have a magic crystal ball, so I cannot tell you how this is going to play out, but we need to take a lucid look at the big picture. This election really isn't about Obama, McCain, or even Bush. This is about our future.
When Obama was asked about his place for McCain in an Obama administration, he responded with "loyal opposition." This will be Obama's place if he loses, which, by extension, will make it our place. It will take every ounce of our collective will to keep McCain from starting a Third World War with Putin. We will have to unite as a nation to get through our coming crises. That is the real meaning of unity. That is Obama's goal.
That is why we must do every single fucking thing we can to elect Obama. War may yet be inevitable, but we still have Hope.
