In today's Dallas Morning News there was a front page story describing the plight of the many Texans without health care coverage. Between the years of disasterous (non)leadership provided by George Bush and the continuing misgovernance by his republican successor, Bill Perry, Texas once again leads the nation with the highest percentage of residents without health care insurance, according to the US Census Bureau. Almost 25% were uninsured in 2006 and 2007.
As might be expected, the republicans found a unique way to spin these numbers and their spokesperson is none other than an individual who help McCain put together his healthcare policy... See below the fold.
This according to a McCain advisor.
But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care).
"So I have a solution that will cost not one thin dime." Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and disist from describing any American - even illegal aliens - as uninsured. Instead the Bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care.
"So, there you have it, Voila! Problem solved."
What a great solution... I guess we can recategorize the rest of the nations woes by simply describing them differently.
(Suggestions welcomed)
It is frightening to realize that people like this are advising McCain, but it does inspire me to work that much harder to insure that we take the White House back from these heartless swine.
