Dear Mainstream Media,
Please disregard this if it happens,
Now, Matt Drudge's "source" is hinting a leak DURING the Obama speech and a confirmation a bit later.
We know that a scoop is a scoop. We know that ratings are king. We know that journalism depends on being on the scene to get the story. However, there is a major difference between "breaking news" and "man bites dog."
Barack Obama is poised to deliver what might be a great speech tonight. In fact, based on his track record, it will be a great speech tonight. Now the McCain camp will do anything to divert attention away from this speech. They have already gone beyond basic respect and human decency, and now look for ways to plumb the depths for more dreck to pile on to an already filthy campaign. So when your cell phone rings, your beeper beeps, your in box chirps "You have Mail", ignore it. Pretend it did not happen. Do not add it to a crawl line or put a corner box in the window. They have waited this long, they can wait a half hour more.
Of course, Fox News can do what they want. If this happens, more than likely they will preempt the speech in its entirety so that they can cover the fact that Mittim Pawlentomney is the new vice-presidential nominee for the Republican Party. This will just add evidence to the fact that Fox News is an oxymoron.
Now, if McCain's ground breaking ad tonight happens to announce his nominee, then there isn't anything you can do about it. Play the commercial, and know that the future of our country may rest in the hands of a man who has to ride the coattails of his opponent in order to get attention.
Oh, and by the way, most of us will know before you who the nominee is. The tubes work much faster than cell phones, and we are all watching C-Span anyway.
Thanx for your time.
