Another example of AP bias, this time against the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Really, at this point, is anyone shocked?
A few days ago, one of our fine diarists at Daily Kos by the name of droogie6655321 felt compelled to not only delete a diary he had written about where the AP received its feeds, but also to stop using his username here because of the AP's strong arm tactics. They had tracked him down at work and questioned his journalistic integrity to his bosses. Here is the link detailing the entire story. The original diary has been google cached and reposted here several times by different diarists.
In honor of his contributions to this site, I offer another example of biased and just plain piss-poor journalism on behalf of the AP.
Yesterday, I wrote a diary that received some attention regarding the Obama staff meeting with anti-war protesters and the Iraq Veterans Against the War. The original diary can be found here. In this story, I detailed a protest after the Rage Against the Machine concert whereby the Obama staff intervened during a standoff between the police and the protesters. They granted audience with Obama's veterans affairs liason. I linked both the 9news article here and the Denver Post article here.
The entire meat of this story was the fact that the Iraq Veterans Against the War were granted audience with Obama's veterans affairs liason. This fact is prominent on the front page of the IVAW website.
Here is the AP article written about the event. The two staffers who wrote this article are Catherine Tsai and Colleen Slevin. Nowhere in this article do they make any mention of the meat of this story - the fact that Obama staffers intervened and de-escalated the situation. AP ended the article here:
Jonny 5, Brer Rabbit and Andy Guerrero of the Denver group Flobots were with the marchers, as was Raymond "Boots" Riley of political hip-hop group The Coup.
.
While I'm sure that the Flobots and The Coup appreciate the attention (both great bands, btw), it probably would have been a little better to mention the Veterans. They detail all the Scary Parts of the protest, but neglect to mention the resolution.
An error of neglect? I think not. Awful journalism? Certainly. And another example of the bias that AP holds toward Obama and the Democrats.
Hey, AP! By the way? I hate you and my boss thinks you suck.
