So bloggers and diarists (too many to have to link) are shifting from excitement that McCain could manifest such poor judgment on such an important decision, to anger that he would exercise such poor judgment on such an important decision. And its not just mean poor judgment because she may not be qualified, it's poor judgment because it seems clear as day he picked her purely to help himself get elected, rather than worry one iota about what kind of VP and potential president at any moment he would give the country.
To be clear, judgment of course is not just being smart enough to make a good decision, but having enough integrity to make it for the right reasons. Putting a political crony without any knowledge of disaster management in charge of FEMA as a favor, is a good example, the kind that makes me angry too.
But shortly after I reached the angry phase, I came to understand that perhaps we are wrong to place blame on Senator McCain. The first inkling came when I read in a couple of places that he really does not know her at all.
Which I found strange, even illogical since he just made this decision for whatever reasons. So I did a little digging, and found out that maybe we are wrong to blame Senator McCain for the pick at all, or at least exclusively. You see, he did not make the decision. It was made for him by others.
It's a lesson really. We have to be reminded that there is often more than one story explaining things. And we should be open to such alternative realities. I think Sarah Palin is realistic enough to understand this. Heavan help us.
