On this day 47 years ago a baby was born in Hawaii to a white, working-class Kansan mother and a Kenyan goat herder who traveled to study in a magical place called America. After a childhood and adolescence filled with self-doubt and uncertainty, that young child rose to the top of his profession as a United States Senator and presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States. He has served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, taught Constitutional Law to graduate students at University of Chicago Law School and worked as a community organizer in Chicago's South Side. He and his wife Michelle live in Chicago with their two daughters Malia and Sasha.
We all know and love this man. We cheer him, we support him, we defend him from critics, we spread his message of hope and change, we donate to his campaign and many, if not most of us voted for him in our respective states primaries and caucuses. It is now just after midnight here on the East Coast and thusly, it is August 4th: Barack Obama's 47th Birthday. The next few months will be fraught with hope, anxiety, anticipation, anger, and with any luck our hard work will be rewarded with joy and giddy excitement. But now let us take a moment and wish Senator Barack Obama a Happy Birthday! You're our guy Barack, and we got your back. We fired up the oven and we're ready to go bake you a cake (I know, that was cheesy as all hell and I apologize). Happy Birthday Barack Obama, here's to the next one being celebrated at the White House.
I know this diary is a little short and a bit of a cop-out, but I thought it would be nice to get in right at midnight (eastern) so we could have 24 hours of birthday wishes to share with each other. I would also encourage picture, videos and whatever else you can muster in the comments. Thanks Kossacks and Kossettes!! Happy Birthday Barack!!!!
UPDATE: First time on the rec list, thanks guys. And Happy Birthday Barack (in all time zones)!!!
UPDATE 2: You can make a birthday donation here. Let's make Aug. 4 the largest donation day in this campaign's history!
