The thing I can't believe, with regards to the Palin VP pick...and the thing that I hope the media realizes eventually....is that this selection had absolutely nothing to do with governing America; it was ONLY to help win an election.
Think about that.
If John McCain is elected president, he just chose a VP who has no legitimate area of expertise, no experience as a "statesman", and no credibility anywhere outside Wasilla, Alaska.
Every candidate chooses a VP who can help them win. But until now, they have at least pretended that the pick could help lead the country, too. John McCain isn't even bothering with pretenses....There is, literally, no possible way for McCain to rationalize the pick with regards to a potential administration and government. This was the most blatant attempt to win an election at the expense of actual governance in the history of this country, and I don't think that's hyperbole.
The Democrats must emphasize several things, and must do it aggressively. This just became THE defining issue of the election in terms of characterizing John McCain.....The democrats MUST show every voter how scary the possibility of a McCain administration is, and prove that this pick loses all feel-good excitement the minute the election is over.
1- She is one 72-year-old's heartbeat away from being President Palin.
2- That means a president who opposes abortion, even in cases of rape.
3- That means a president who believes global warming is a myth.
4- That means a president who believes creationism (!) should be taught in schools.
5- That means a president who wrote an e-mail to friends and family in the voice of God after her last child was born
6- That means a president who is already under an ethics investigation, and is part of the single most corrupt entity in American politics (the Alaska GOP)
7- That means a president who has so few actual accomplishments, that the signature achievement John McCain pointed out while introducing her is that she won a state title as a high school basketball player.
8- That means a president who may have been to Washington, DC before...but nobody knows for sure.
9- This means a war-time president who has no more foreign policy experience than me.
John McCain is 72, and has a history of health problems. This is not fear-mongering; by virtue of his choice, Americans now HAVE to realize what a President Palin would look like, because, again, there is a very real possibility that we would be confronted with that reality.
The voters and the media must realize that this is now the most important theme of the election...
