I know there's a diary out there about this already, but I felt like following up on it.
In Governor Sarah Palin's acceptance speech on August 29, 2008, she said the following:
"I told Congress, "Thanks, but no thanks," on that bridge to nowhere."
But, in October 22, 2006, she said this to the Anchorage Daily News:
"QUESTION: Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
PALIN: Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."
Meaning, of course, that she wanted to use earmarks for the "bridge to nowhere" because she was in an ideal political opportunity to get it done. Something that she said she was against in her acceptance speech:
"And I championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress."
Oops? While right-wing pundits are hailing her as a feminist (despite being against vital woman's rights issues like the right to choose and equal pay for women), a maverick (as evidenced above she clearly has no problem with abusing earmarks to get things done, even though she says she does), and someone with more experience than Obama (Palin: 20 months as governor of the 3rd least populous state in the US, before that a mayor and city councilwoman for a town of less than 9,000; Obama: Senator for the 5th most populous state in the US for a little less than 4 years where he has written 890 bills and cosponsored 1096, before that state legislator for again the 5th most populous state on the country for 7 years where he sponsored over 820 bills, was a community planner before that for the third largest city in the country, and taught constitutional law for 12 years at the University of Chicago Law School), maybe she needs to pay more attention to what she has and hasn't supported.
Note: I published this same diary at RedState just to see what conservatives would say in rebuttal. I have a feeling it'll be filled with blustering and claims that Obama is a Muslim.
