Here we go again.....those racist douche bags at the GOP using images of pretty blond, white women to scare voters away from another black candidate (a la the absolutely repulsive negative ad against Harold Ford from 2006).
Those racist old turds in the GOP just cannot stop themselves from interjecting white fear into their national media strategy and message. They are reaching into the old playbook and pulling out the tried and true "where da white women at" strategy to scare the bejesus out of working class whites in swing states and traditional southern white voters.
So we are supposed to believe that the purpose of this McCain ad is to question Obama's readiness and challenge his 'celebrity'.
And yet, if you turn the volume down, and forget about the names of the people in the ad, all you see in order of appearence:
- young, pretty white blond woman;
- another young, pretty white blond woman;
- 'scary' black man.
As the folks in the Reagan White House Communications used to say (and I am paraphrasing): "We don't care what you say about Reagan as long as the images you use make him look Presidential and strong."
Well the same principle applies here. If they wanted to use celebrities, why not choose John C. Reilly and Will Farrell? Why not choose Randy, Simon and Paula? Why not choose anyone other than pretty, young blond women?
It is only August. Expect more ads like this one. And they will get more intense and more vile, as this snarky parody ad listed below suggests
