I had what I hope is a brilliant idea. McCain is outright shooting himself in the foot with his move to mock Obama about the tire pressure solution (as Olbermann pointed out, the low-income white voters that McCain is trying so hard to court are probably the ones most aware of this way to save money).
What if we helped Obama prove that it works to ordinary citizens and at the same time showed how well his grassroots movement works?
Here's my idea. We start producing signs that say something like the following:
Save Money on Gas!
Inflate your Tires!
With maybe an Obama logo in the "o" in the word "on".
And then we take these signs and we go to our local gas stations and hang the signs if they give is permission. That, in and of itself, might help. Even better, however, would be to assemble small teams of people with manual tire pumps to do volunteer shifts and check people's tires (again, with the permission of the station owner) and inflate them as needed.
I apologize for asking, but if you think this is a good idea, please rec this up. I think if we had people all over the country volunteering time to do this, just the presence of the volunteers would be enough to sway some hearts and minds. And we'd be helping the environment and sore wallets regardless.
In the meantime, I'll be sending this idea to my local Democratic organizers. Maybe we could even put GOTV booths there.
