Jerry Northington, who blogs here as Possum, is running for Congress in Delaware (as you may know). I had a chance to speak with him the other day and I was incredibly impressed. But you don't have to take it to me. Jerry's a vet (and a vet... the Vietnam variety AND the animal doctor variety) so I figured we'd ask a few patients for some opinions:
For 4 evenings, we're raising money on DailyKos for Jerry Northington, or Possum, who is running in Delaware. Possum's primary is this September. Possum is a Vietnam Vet and veterinarian who will provide our caucus with a much better Democrat!
We are conducting this fundraiser in a few ways. One is via an auction. Please ogle the merchandise at Seneca Doane's DE-AL: Possum photo auction rebooted; need your help! and bid at NION: Jerry "Possum" Northington PHOTO AUCTION FUNDRAISER PAGE!
If you'd prefer to just give money instead of bidding in the auction, please check out my ActBlue page and you can give there. Instructions on non-monetary contributions are below too.
They say getting liberals to fall in line is like herding cats. Well, uh, try actually herding cats. The patients weren't always cooperative when I asked them to pay attention:
Good choice in books, Raiden!
Still, even if they spent a lot of time ignoring me, they are just as frustrated with we are at the state of our country right now.
Getting Jerry elected is a first step towards taking the country back. I'm sick of getting more Democrats, I want better Democrats. I want to elect people like Jerry - people who are tuned into the needs of average people in their districts. Jerry really, really impressed me with his very detailed knowledge of (and concern for) the plight of the constituents he'll be representing.
Even this bunch of cats agrees! Now, when a vet is so fantastic that even the CATS like him... that's a strong statement.
FYI to all... in my discussion with Jerry he told me about a great way we can help him OTHER THAN giving money. It doesn't involve canvassing or making phone calls, so even shy folks can help out. Contact Jerry (or contact me and I'll put you in touch) if you can give 1-2 hrs of your time to help him out on this.
If there's one thing I've learned in this past year by following our Kossack candidates, it's that it takes more than money to win. Money can get you the staff, the office, the yard signs, etc, but you actually need to reach the voters individually. If you can help Jerry do that by giving a bit of time, it will be worth more than money :)
