That's right, yet another politician has referred to Obama as a "young man." Get your net-placards ready 'cause this one's a shocker.
That is: shock diary. Got you with that title, did I? Hope so...
Now, to hear some segments of the net-left tell it, that's tantamount to calling him a darkie. A throwback to the times when you'd call a black man "boy"... if he was lucky. Just calling him "young man" brings up images of sit ins, back of the bus, firehoses, dogs, and those oh-so-disturbing photos of a group of smiling white people gathered around a tree socializing while, above them, two black bodies sway in the breeze like wind chimes.
And God help us if they stick an image of a white woman in there. Well then it's Blazin' Saddles all over again.
But, you know, what happens when the full quote is revealed to be the following?
Obama was introduced by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, a former supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., who promised, "We will put our heart and soul into every day between now and November 4th . . . to make sure, that this bright, young, energized, compassionate, intelligent, committed, young man by the name of Barack Obama becomes our next president."
Saints preserve us! One of our own? But he called BHO a... a "young man"! Why, he's right up there with the Lieberbeast and Bull Connor!
I don't mean to offend. I know the Republicans sometimes resort to sly race-baiting. But I also know they only benefit when we grab every little thing that might have a possible connection to America's deplorable racial past and decry it as though it were a cross burning. They only benefit when someone's on television trying to explain that phallic-symbol buildings plus white women equals horrible racism even though your average viewer, he didn't think of it, but that's okay because that's how slick the Republicans are!
I mean, I'm a black guy what fancies himself a bit smarter than the average bear. I understand: the Republicans go low and go low often. But I also think I have a good feel for the race fatigue in certain segments of the country. And when we go about calling every other person a racist... well, it just hurts our cause.
All I'm trying to say is that we should be a bit more... selective? with such heavy accusations. That's about all.
