Choice.
That's the most important word in dealing with Bristol Palin's pregnancy, in my opinion.
It's a given that anyone with a sense of decency wishes her the very best in starting her new family.
The circumstances of how that family started are nobody's business, regardless of politics.
But the McCain camp says she made the decision all on her own:
Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.
And that's what this story is all about. Choice.
Here's the way the story starts on Reuters:
ST. PAUL, Sept 1 (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said....
There's no joy in saying anything more about Bristol Palin's pregnancy.
She made a choice. So says John McCain.
EVERY WOMAN must have the right to choose.
If Bristol Palin gets to choose, "my friends," so do all of you.
