ENOUGH! McCain and Palin are lying. Period. They are relying on an old, old tactic (although not quite as old as Mr. McCain). Lies, lies and more lies! We were warned they would try this. Barack Obama told us. The democratic strategist warned us. And Hillary Clinton, well...uh it was her battle cry. So now what??
This election has nothing to do with McCain, Palin, Obama or Clinton. It has to do with the American people. We can no longer profess innocence. Bush Jr. ruined all that. The last 8 years and the multitude of scandals and incompetence has robbed us of the ignorance shield. If America wasn't paying attention before they have no excuse now. The economy is in the dumps, inflation is on the rise, gas prices are ridiculous. The Iraq war, well, is the Iraq war. The Constitution is trembling and our reputation as the last, great beacon of hope is on the line. Yet the republicans lead in the polls. They're controlling the newscycle. They spew lies day after day. The media, well at least the print media, is starting to show some backbone. Hopefully the cable news shows (CNN) will start to call lies um lies.. because journalist and reporters are Americans too. They will be held responsible.
BO told us it was about us, Americans, months and months ago. Now I finally see the true clarity of those remarks. McCain has bowed to Rove and the gutter politics that were the hallmark of the Bush administration. He put his campaign first. He put his ambitions first. He put his honor last and thus the countries. To quasi-quote his VP pick "America deserves a better discourse that this". What will he do in the White House? What lies will he tell to cover up more lies? What will factor in his decisions? By what merit will he choose his cabinet? He cowered to his own fears of losing and therefore bowed down to the extremism in his own party. Instead of standing on his honor, he crumbled. He dropped the ball. Now its up to the American people to pick it up.
What will we do? We're responsible now. Democrats (yes I'm talking to you Ms. Clinton) need to stand up regardless of who they supported in the primary. The American people need to stand up regardless of how they feel about a black family in a the white house. Reporters need to report the truth regardless of what their CEO or editors think. The time is now America.
One more thing...please watch Thirteen Days to see the true impact that a president has on ALL of us. Imagine if someone else was in office besides JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis. C'mon America.
AND...the reason I singled out CNN is because Anderson Cooper was truly disgusting yesterday. He called the games and lies that have become the hallmark of the McCain campaign genius. Genuis! Get a load of that. Lying to the American people? Genuis he said! Blaming the media and playing the gender card? Genius he proclaimed! Restarting the divisive culture wars? Genuis in his book. Gimme a break.
STAND UP AMERICA. STAND UP. IT'S NOT UP TO BARACK OBAMA, ITS UP TO ALL OF US.
