My Uncle was a huge supporter of McCain in 2000. In the winter of 2005, he braved a very cold day to get a signed copy of then Senator John McCain's book, "Character is Destiny".:: Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember
He signed it, TO ANDREW O'CONNOR- MERRY X-MAS! John McCain.
(All punctuation and capitalization appears the same).
This is the gift that keeps on giving.
John McCain didn't want to tell a reporter last week what his definition of Honor was. He said to look it up in his book.
I understand he was busy being a nominee for president, but it still seems odd since in Senator McCain's own book, "Character is destiny", the first 5 chapters, "Honesty", "Respect", "Authenticity", "Loyalty" and "Dignity" are all organized neatly into part one, titled "Honor".
Each of these chapter's contains a passage from , Thomas More, Ghandi, Joan of Arc, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Viktor Frankl respectively.
Seriously, Ghandi writes a chapter in his book.
The entire book is actually a manifesto on personal character. In his introduction, John McCain tells the reader he does not believe in destiny, but rather the strength of one's personal character destines one's life. Hence the Title.
There are some fantastic excerpts in this book. It's probably one of the best books I've read by a politician. Sure he didn't really write the thing himself, but I don't care to get bogged down in semantics. If Jeff Koons can call himself an artist, John McCain can call himself a writer.
This book really is the gift that keeps on giving. Everytime I see Rovian, duck-butter slime from his campaign, stuff like this-
I just go to this book on my shelf. It's my McCain Hypocrisy Almanac. It's chocked full of "Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember".
Merry X-Mas Johnny Boy.
