This is what I've done lately. What have you been doing? I'm not meaning to sound all righteous, because I've done my share of hand-wringing and worrying, even waking up in the middle of the night due to anxiety. More over the flip.
Monday night I went to a regional Obama/Biden meeting in my Blue state and found out in detail what work is planned for us. I met a wonderful couple who had worked for Hillary all over the country, and they are fired up and ready to go for Obama/Biden. True Democrats. I realize it's hard to switch over but I did it in 2004 and worked my heart out (and gave serious $, for me, anyway) for Kerry/Edwards.
Yesterday I went on mybarackobama.com and created a House party for my house on Saturday evening for a joyful gathering of Obama supporters. I made calls today to friends and acquaintances and, not knowing all of their politics, took a chance and invited them to the party. So far 9 people are coming and seem very happy to do so. I'm trying to persuade one still disgruntled Hillary supporter to get on board; I know if she comes she will. It's a motley crew coming-young to old pharts like me and all inbetween. Most haven't worked on a campaign before.
Also, tonight I went on "Make calls" and made twenty calls to Obama/Biden folks the campaign has identified as possible volunteers. I asked them if they would be willing to canvass in a battleground state, make calls to voters in battleground states, or calls in our Blue state. I found 4 (FOUR) people willing to travel, and 3 willing to call from their homes or from a phone bank. I talked to one woman who had gone to college in the same city I had (different schools) at the same time! We had a few laughs together and I'm sending her all the latest campaign blurbs, Youtube links and stuff cause she is ripping mad. She'll be making calls. Yahoo! I feel g-o-o- d.
You will, too, if you get off the blogs, shut off the bloviators on the tubes, and get to work. Obama says this is our campaign. It is. Are you all in? An animal analogy I like to use to explain the difference between contribution and commitment is: Chickens contribute eggs; pigs commit the bacon. Be the PIG!
