The McCain campaign is throwing a lot of lies out there. It's going to keep finding lies to toss out there to distract people from the issues, because that's the only way they can win. Obama will always be playing defense if he responds to lies one at a time. What he needs to do instead is respond to nearly all present and future lies at once and put pressure on McCain.
Imho, Obama needs an ad with roughly the following elements:
- Directly state McCain has lied, is lying, and will continue to lie. They will misrepresent, misstate, and lie about the context of quotes.
- McCain will due this because he is continuing the failed policies of Bush and hence is too weak to win an argument about issues. He is having a tantrum of lies instead.
- A brief statement with some specifics of Obama's main issues should be put in the aid. He's for merit-based pay in education, he supports charter schools, he's for health care that's affordable and available to all, he's going to lower the taxes of BOTTOM 90% of Americans, etc.
- Conclude by saying something along the lines of "don't be distracted by McCain's lies, because we come together as Americans and focus on critical problems we are facing today."
About half of the ad should be elements 1 and 2, and the other half should be 3 and 4.
This addresses the insane ads by McCain's campaign, talks about the issues, and it forces McCain on the defenses by making him respond to being called a liar. Anyhow, Obama can't keep addressing each lie by itself. It has to focus on the act of lying by McCain and simultaneously try to get the public to think about the issues again.
