Look at the top of the water, fish, and what do you see? Fish food. Manna from heaven. Little flakes of goodness to satisfy our bellies, and keeping us wanting more, until the next feeding. All around us the water is getting dirtier, and the threats are getting more real, and still, we turn our faces upwards to the promise of more little pieces of happiness. Do we know who is feeding us, and why? Do we know if all the food is good to eat? Perhaps its poison. Perhaps Karl Rove is feeding us.
More below the fold.
Okay kossacks, I'm guilty. I'm guilty of Reccing these tidbits about Palin, and Cindy, and John, and everyone else. And I'm going to stop. Now.
We are hypocrites. We keep chiding the Obama campaign for falling for these little traps, yet we are some of the biggest offenders. We see every blog from every reliable and unreliable source and we think, "This is the one that is going to take them down." This is the moment when Mulder shows Scully a real live alien and Scully, the ever present skeptic stands up and says, "I believe you Mulder." And it never happens. It happens because there is never enough information, enough proof; and if there is enough evidence, then it is never damning enough, and if it is damning enough, then it never gets full coverage. Do you know why this is? Because we are under a false presumption.
We believe that we rule the tubes. The blogosphere is our turf, and the Republicans don't have a clue on what is really going on. We mock sites like Red state with its non-functioning software. We believe that when we finally unleash our full power, that the seas will part, that scales will fall from their eyes, and everyone, EVERYONE will join us in our mission of faith, and hope and love, and change. Kum Bay Yah. The truth is that this website, and a million like it, are merely a means for transmitting massive amounts of information. We know the Republican's are masters of information control, and Karl Rove is the supreme ruler of Message. So why are we talking about Cindy's drug use 15 years ago? Sex and Oil? How good was that timing? Do these sound familiar. Alabama National Guard, anyone? Coke and drunk driving in Maine? Sure fire winners. In the latter case, I knew both the person who leaked the story and the reporter who reported it. They certainly didn't think they were going to help Bush get re-elected, but they did. And now it is happening again.
Is it possible the reason they are hiding Sarah Palin is not because they are scared of what she would say, but instead they are just trying to drive the Democrats and the blogs, especially us, crazy with speculation. Can she govern? Is she smart enough? Is she a cruel and vindictive woman? Lipstick? She's a good speaker, far better than our current Preznit. Any "gaffe" she makes, she will easily be able to cover. Any allegation will be refuted. And everyday off message, we waste debating over things we don't have a clue about.
So here is my vow. I will not write a diary about anything that might have been driven by Karl Rove. The personal attacks, the fitness to lead, and especially the gossip can wait til after the election. If we stay on message, we will not lose. If we control the information. If we have discipline enough to let the theorists pine away at what might be, and we stick with is and what will be, then we will win.
