This is a personal diary. I don't really expect many to read it, but I do hope that at least DarkSyde sees it; he's been following my story.
Being a political junkie and in general, liking to keep up with news, these seem awful dark times. Obama's tied with McCain, Palin's winning the election, Ike is busy destroying a good part of our refining capacity (not to mention many lives in Galveston and Houston). The bad news seems endless. But I managed to complete a project that's taken me 15 years, against all odds...
I finally was awarded my PhD two days ago. This despite having major surgery three weeks before my dissertation was due, five weeks before the oral defense.
It wasn't easy, as Daily Kos always was a major distraction! I'm a political junkie to the core. But now I move on to the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC, a new postdoc, and hopefully a small contribution to the scientific world.
It's a bit sad, to leave my home of 10 years, to not get a chance to do alot of the volunteer work I did in 2006 for the Kilroy campaign in OH-15. Amidst the preparations to move and start a new job, not alot of time to do campaign stuff.
But one thing is for certain: I will be voting absentee for the Democratic ticket. :)
Here's to hoping that I can look forward to seeing Obama's inauguration live and in person next January.
