I know that many people are anxious to stop talking about Sarah Palin and start talking about John McCain instead. But the best way to bridge that is to talk about Sarah Palin as a reflection of John McCain's judgment. Below the fold is a brief letter to the editor that I will be submitting to my local paper in Champaign, IL.
Feel free to plagarize the shit out of me when contacting your own paper but the cause will probably be better served if you improve on my short thoughts.
Sir or Ma'am:
Charlie Gibson’s interview of Sarah Palin clear that she lacks the knowledge and experience needed to be president. It also revealed a lack of intellectual curiosity that is eerily similar to George W. Bush. By choosing a person so unqualified and ill-suited for the office, John McCain has put political strategy before the good of the country. The American people will not reward such reckless judgment.

I truly believe that this selection will booomerang on Senator McCain. He has taken a slight lead in the polls because of his convention and then the week after was spent discussing nonsense and distractions rather than issues. That always suits Republicans.
But the election will return to serious issues. And that always helps Democrats, especially in an enviroment of job loss and economic struggles.
Sadly, as soon as she loses this election, she will become the morning-line betting favorite for their nomination in 2012. And who knows, maybe 4 years of cramming for Social Studies 101 will give her enough credibility to be nominated.
