Listening to McCain's avalanche of lies - which he continues to repeat even after they have been exposed as having no basis in fact - I'm insulted.
Hearing McCain claim with a straight face that Sarah Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is near Russia and has national security experience because she knows about energy - the actual assertion was "she knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America" I'm insulted.
I'm insulted that a man who wants to be my president thinks that it's okay to lie to me and misrepresent himself and his opponent to get my vote. I realize this is politics as usual, but I still find it insulting.
I'm insulted that McCain thinks that I and my fellow Americans are stupid enough to buy his lies. That he doesn't respect us or our political process enough to lay his policy and experience cards on the table and let the people decide which candidate they prefer, and instead smears and tries to villify his opponent without any regard for the truth or decency.
I'm insulted on behalf of all women that McCain thinks we would vote based on the gender of one of the candidates, rather than on the issues.
I'm insulted on behalf of all men, because McCain seems to believe that stupidity is not gender based.
I'm insulted on behalf of all city slickers, that McCain & Palin have implied that only small town residents have decent values and are good people.
I'm insulted on behalf of small town folks that McCain & Palin believe they are so small minded that they would vote for someone based on where they are from rather than what their policies and plans for the country are.
I'm insulted on behalf of all who believe that our founding fathers established a secular nation , that McCain believes that "the Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation."
I'm insulted on behalf of all non Christians, because McCain has said that in his opinion non only is religious faith an important qualification for leading this country, he also said that he believes his faith (as in his religion) is of better spiritual guidance than the Muslim faith. (watch "what religion should the president be?" video)
I'm insulted on behalf of those of us who care about the issues that McCain has decided this election isn't about them.
I'm insulted on behalf of all those with any sense of honor and decency that McCain would run such a despicable, dishonest, sleazy, slimy campaign and then blame Obama for the tone.
As the child of a retired cosmetics executive I'm insulted on behalf of lipstick.
As a childhood fan of "Charlotte's Web" I'm insulted on behalf of pigs. (would palin want to ban it?)
I'm insulted on behalf of the media, but let's face it the media has been so remiss in doing their job for so long, they have only themselves to blame (but that's a topic for another diary entry).
And I'm a lot more than just insulted that McCain is seeking the highest office in the land, with a number one responsibility to keep us safe in these dangerous times, and he picks a running mate with only a rudimentary understanding of the world that we live in. (You can say "Charlie" a hundred times in an interview, it doesn't mean that you know what you're talking about.)
Picking Sarah Palin as VP isn't just an insult - it's a sign of a real lack of respect for the American people and a lack of concern and lack judgement that is terrifying.
With this choice McCain has shown he doesn't love his country, he loves the idea of being the President of this country.
With this choice McCain has shown that he isn't concerned about national security, he's concerned about votes.
With this choice McCain has shown himself to be a puppet rather than a maverick - he kowtowed to the extreme religious right of the party rather than being a man and picking the pro choice, well qualified running mate he wanted.
With this choice McCain shown that though he may not be willing to lose a war to win an election, he's clearly willing to risk the security of this nation to win one.
I'm not stupid, I'm insulted. I pray that I'm in the majority.
