Voters are at a serious disadvantage in voting for one person for President without knowing who the 5000 or so people are that he will appoint to actually run the government.
When you vote for the President, you are really voting for the 5000 people or so he appoints, because they will do most of the heavy lifting required to run the government. In McCain's case, of course, this will be especially true given his age and history of taking weekends off, even during the campaign.
It would seem important, then, to examine the criteria that McCain will use in his hiring decisions if he is elected (I refuse to think who Palin would select if she became President, even though I know it would probably be her classmates from middle school).
Since Palin is the ony hiring decision McCain has so far made, we have to assume that she sets the standard for most or all of his future hires.
The primary qualifications for any given position, then, would seem to be someone who is single minded, religious, secretive, vindictive, stubborn, xenophobic, impulsive, contemptuous of experts and crtics, and of course, a complete surprise to the entire country.
I would not presume to suggest candidates for all 5000 positions, but I can suggest several for McCain's Cabinet that meet the Palin standard;
Secretary of State- Mike Huckabee
Secretary of Commerce- Jack Abramoff (second term only)
Attorney General -Rudy Guiliani
Secretary of Labor - Phil Gramm
Secretary of the Interior- CEO of Exxon Mobil
Secretary of Defense- John Bolton
Secretary of the Treasury- Ahmed Chalabi
Secretary of Health and Human Services - Phyllis Schaffly
This is not a wholly frivolous excercise; the voters need to think about who besides McCain and Palin would be running things if McCain is elected.
Feel free to add your own suggestions.
