If you know him, you may know him from his many essays in The Atlantic or from the, seemingly, endless novel, Infinite Jest.
For us political followers, DFW also wrote an extremely interesting piece on Senator John McCain back in 2000 for Rolling Stone, which was called The Weasel, Twelve Monkeys and the Shrub: Seven Days in the Life of the Late, Great John McCain.
The essay was expanded and released this year as a small book called McCain's Promise.
DFW also wrote a very stirring account of his experience on 9/11 that was also published in Rolling Stone.
Obviously, this has little to do with what is going on with McCain vs. Obama now, but it is still a sad day for us dedicated readers....
I will always remember his essay on cruises as some of the funniest writing I have ever read....
