How long does it take to gut a nation? Well, as it turns out, right around 8 years.
In order to achieve such widespread devastation, however, you need a specific brand of jackass. You need a man who is time tested in his own failure and who has a wealth of loyal jackasses to draw from to fill the various positions required to administrate and mark out the progress of universal failure. You need someone who can cater to and enable the greed of private sector jackasses, who will, in turn run their workforce into the ground while simultaneously risking the security of their institutions on bogus money-fast schemes, essentially throwing your paycheck on red and letting it ride...
You need someone who will make the fatal error of actually believing his lies and whose error is repeated right down the line as echoed by his own private echo chamber. When the foolishness of buying into one’s own propaganda takes its toll, you’ll need some folks to create a gargantuan straw-man to counter the universal, decadent idiocy that has been hand crafted by the original fool.
The odds against finding a person so incompetent so corrupt; such a volatile mixture of childish ineptitude, and holding a stocked resume of a lifetime of failure must be astronomical. Sadly, America has beaten the odds, and after 8 years of nightmarish surrealism of which my vocabulary is incomplete to begin to describe, we find ourselves scrambling to account for the enormous devastation imposed on us by George W. Bush and his conglomerate of like-minded nit-wits.
There is really no excuse for anyone to ignore or deny the impact anymore. For some of us, it was ominous from the start; for others, it took years beyond fledgling support to realize that this Administration represented a swift advance toward the abyss, when, in fact, once the man was seated, it was only a matter of time. Prune a branch from a tree and the leaves remain green; but still, it has, in fact, begun the swift journey into decay. It just takes time. Give it a week and what once seemed to beam with the stereotypical signs of life has now become withered and brown, and absent of any signs of life. Give the richest and most powerful nation in the world a President and an Administration whose gamut of flaws is unprecedented, we now know that it takes just about 8 years to reach a dangerous proximity to the point of no return.
The only glimmer of hope that I have is that people out there will recognize the gravity of the situation we’re in and fulfill the duty of their citizenry. That dim light off in the distance is, however engulfed by the terrifying darkness of a potential President John McCain, who represents a full four-year extension of the criminal failure of George W. Bush.
The aftermath has already begun. How many people can see the wake of their own destruction before they are relieved of the helm? That’s how dire the situation for all of us is. Clearly, we do not have four more years to begin the enormous task of reversing the wreckage imposed on us.
I am hoping that folks like Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, and McJoan and Meteor Blades immediately begin analyzing the wake of this Administration; calling it by name:
The Wake of the Bush Presidency.
After all, it is not waiting until next January to wash over our nation.
I don’t think I need to continue stating the obvious. I just needed to vent after the past few days…
