Just writing this diary to explain my new role as a member of a commission. More below the fold.
I recieved an email yesterday that not only excited me, but made me want to jump for joy. I have been appointed by the Governor to serve a two-year term on the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs. This is a seven person commission that was created by the Governor two years ago. The purpose of this commission is to work within the commission and also work with the state Legislature to improve the lives of Native Americans living in the State of Vermont. This mainly covers the Abenakis, Odanak Indians and members of any other tribe that live in Vermont.
It is a totally voluntary commission. Anyone with Native American blood or descendants can join. Members serve a two year term but can serve longer depending on their interest.
I am excited to be a part of this commission. It will be a great learning experience for me. I will learn the ins and outs of Montpelier and state politics. I will be able to help my tribe as well. I am thankful that Governor Douglas chose me and I intend to do whatever it takes to attend the meetings monthly, etc.
A lot of change is happening in my life right now and I'm excited for what the future may hold. Besides pursuing a B.S degree, I am also looking to move closer to work and school.
Just thought I would share.
