There was a time, in my lifetime, when Detroit was the fourth largest city. It is still home to three of the ten largest corporations in the world. Yet Detroit is dead. Officially. As of today.
For you see, there are elections outside of OH-02 going on in this country. Today, the city of Detroit holds its primary elections for mayor. This used to be a kingmaker's position. Coleman Young's endorsement was necessary for any potential presidential candidate in the seventies and eighties.
Today, the election for mayor of Detroit is of little note. I've scoured this site. Not a word. Not one single word about Detroit.
For what it's worth, The Truly Honourable Representative John Conyers, who may be the last honest man in Congress represents Detroit.
Plenty of huzzahs for Conyers. And rightfully so. But, alas, the Motor City. I knew her well.
May she rest in peace.
