There seems to be an assumption by many here that somehow Obama is going to just steamroll John Mccain in the debates. Well I'm not sure if you have been watching all of the primary debates, and interviews with Obama. And if you have, and have been at least trying to listen to him with an objective eye you may have noticed he isn't as good at debate as speeches.
So now you are staying "but John Mccain is stupid and makes a lot of dumb jokes". Exactly. Sometimes we forget, what sounds good and thoughtful to us, sounds complicated and like bullshit to others. And those others are people who are going to make the difference in Nov whether we like it or not.
The problem is if you ask Obama or most democrats for that matter, a question about any issue thats given to them as a Yes or No, they will pause for a moment, and then slowly work into a whole pragmatic line of reasoning and logic. Then you have Mccain and who will start of by answering right away with a Yes or No, then following it up with an attempt at logic (even if it contradicts something he said the day before, or the questions before, but it doesn’t matter because he’s "being real"....
For example, picture how Obama would answer these mock debate questions and picture how Mccain would as well...
- Should we drill off-shore?
- Should we drill in Alaska?
- What about Oil stocks and peoples 401ks?
- Do you believe in a school voucher system?
- Do you believe Abortion should be illegal?
- Do you believe removing Saddam Hussein made Irais better off?
- Do you think warrantless wiring tapping should be illegal?
- Do you think there should be a guest worker program?
- If Iran has and admits that it has a solid nuclear program would you at minimum airstrike those development locations?
There are many other questions, but my point is Mccain because of his solid republican stances now, will answer these questions fairly quickly and to the point, which a lot of Americans like. And Obama’s slow thoughtful approach will make him look unsure or just full of it to a lot of people.
My thought is that 1 debate will learn toward Obama, one will lean toward Mccain the other will be a draw, and the VP debate might make the difference. And even though Biden is a pretty good debater, when he is sitting across the table from Dick Cheney, I mean Casey Anthony, I mean Sarah Palin, it can be very hard to work around a brutal circle of lies and denial without getting too complicated. And as always the main factor is how the majority of the media perceives the dates.
